Tasting Notes: The sloe’s aromatic cherry taste combines with the dark fruity port to give a juicy rich taste. There’s a perhaps surprising, yet welcome, spicy finish that helps make Sloe Ruby really unique.
Winemaking Notes: Juniper, coriander, angelica, orris, bay with six botanicals, 21.5% ABV, from York, UK
How to Serve: As a sloe gin, Sloe Ruby is a classic neat and a favourite winter warmer. For a more summery G&T, mix it with a good quality tonic (traditional Indian tonic or lemon-flavour tonic suits the gin perfectly). If you fancy a fizz cocktail, pour a shot of gin into a glass of prosecco.
About the Winemaker: Sloemotion Distillery has become well-known thanks to its great quality gins and award-winning steeping methods. The Yorkshire-based distillery steeps small batches of whole fruit in high quality spirits for a number of months to develop full flavours, and they taste test every batch. They also make award-winning chocolate truffles and chutneys with their ‘spent’ berries.
